Privacy Policy

Effective July 1, 2026

Seminary Sidekick ("we," "us," or "our") operates a marketing website at https://seminarysidekick.com and companion mobile applications designed to help seminary students master the 100 doctrinal mastery scriptures. We are deeply committed to protecting your privacy and practicing data minimalism.

In the current phase of this project (often referred to internally as Tier 1), the website and apps are built with no user accounts and no collection of your name, email address, or other directly identifying information. The core single-player experience stays entirely on your device. A small amount of pseudonymous data is processed by trusted service providers to power optional features—Group Play multiplayer and premium AI features—as described below. The only place we accept an email address is an optional teacher launch-notification form on the website. This page explains exactly what all of that means in plain terms.

Information we collect

We do not ask for your name, email address, or any other directly identifying information to use the website or apps. You do not create an account or log in. The limited data processed for Group Play and premium AI features is described in the sections below.

  • Website: The marketing site is largely static. The one exception is an optional teacher launch-notification form: if you choose to submit your email address there, we store it (via our form provider, Formspree) solely to notify you about the app's launch and Class Play. We never sell it, never share it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time. Otherwise, the only way we receive information is if you voluntarily email us at hello@seminarysidekick.com.
  • Mobile apps: For the core single-player experience, all progress, notes, and settings live entirely on your device and nothing is sent to our servers. Optional features—Group Play and premium AI features—send limited data to service providers as described in the "Group Play" and "AI features" sections below.
  • Contact: When you email us, we receive the message you send. We treat it as private correspondence and use it only to respond to your inquiry. We do not add you to any marketing lists unless you explicitly request it.

Group Play and multiplayer features

The optional Group Play (Class Play) feature lets students practice together in real time from the mobile app or from this website at /join. To make this work, we send a limited amount of data to Supabase, the cloud service that hosts our multiplayer infrastructure. When you use Group Play — including joining via a QR code or link on seminarysidekick.com — the following is transmitted to and stored on Supabase's servers:

  • An anonymous user ID: a randomly generated, persistent identifier created in the app or browser. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account, but it does allow the service to recognize the same device or browser across sessions. Stale anonymous IDs may be purged periodically.
  • Your nickname: the display name you choose when joining a room. We encourage players not to use their full real name — especially for minors in a classroom setting.
  • Room participation records: which rooms you have created or joined.
  • Gameplay data: your quiz answers and Scripture Builder finish times, used to run the game and show results to other players in the room.
  • Real-time presence data: whether you are currently connected to a room, so other players can see who is participating.

This data is used solely to operate Group Play. It is never used for advertising or sold to anyone. If you never use Group Play, none of this data is collected. You can learn more in Supabase's privacy policy.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics on the website. Plausible is a lightweight, privacy-first analytics tool that we chose precisely because it respects visitors.

Plausible does not:

  • Use cookies or any persistent client-side tracking
  • Collect IP addresses in identifiable form
  • Fingerprint devices or build individual profiles
  • Track you across other websites

It provides only aggregated, anonymous statistics (for example, "120 visits to the home page this month"). This helps us understand what content is helpful so we can improve the site. You can learn more in Plausible’s own privacy policy.

We use no other analytics, advertising pixels, or third-party trackers.

Premium subscriptions

Certain advanced features inside the Seminary Sidekick mobile apps are available through optional paid subscriptions. These subscriptions are purchased and managed exclusively through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

We use RevenueCat as a lightweight service to validate your subscription receipt on your device so the app can unlock the correct features. RevenueCat receives only the minimal receipt data necessary for validation. We never receive or store your payment information, Apple ID, Google account details, or any other personal data from the transaction.

All billing, refunds, and subscription management happen entirely inside the App Store or Play Store. We do not process payments ourselves.

Premium AI features (xAI Grok)

Some optional premium features are powered by Grok, an AI service operated by xAI. These include Ask Your Sidekick chat, AI-generated journal prompts, and AI-driven goal suggestions. When you use one of these features, the text you enter (such as a chat question or journal-related input) is sent to xAI's servers to generate a response.

We do not send your name, email, or other identifying information with these requests, and we do not use your AI conversations for advertising. We encourage you not to include sensitive personal details in text you submit to AI features. xAI processes this data as a service provider under xAI's privacy policy. If you never use the AI features, no data is sent to xAI.

Crash and error diagnostics

To keep the apps stable, we use Sentry to collect anonymous crash and error reports when something goes wrong. These reports include technical information such as the type of error, the device model, and the app version. They do not include your name, email, journal entries, scripture notes, chat messages, nicknames, screenshots, or any other personal or user-generated content. We use this data only to find and fix bugs.

How we use and share information

Because we collect so little, there is almost nothing to use or share. Anonymous aggregated analytics help us improve the site and apps. We never sell, rent, or trade information. The service providers described above—Supabase (Group Play), xAI (AI features), RevenueCat (subscription validation), and Sentry (crash diagnostics)—process data only to provide their respective services to us, and we choose partners who meet high privacy standards.

Future features (TBD)

We are planning additional capabilities in later phases of the Seminary Sidekick Suite, such as teacher resource sharing, saved class rosters, and community features. These will require accounts and more data handling. When those features are ready, we will update this Privacy Policy well in advance, explain the new practices clearly, and give you control over your information. Until then, the practices described above remain in effect.

We also plan to add premium AI capabilities such as a voice-to-journal feature. Voice-to-journal would convert your speech to text on your device and send that transcribed text to xAI to generate journal prompts or responses; your audio recording itself would not be sent. When it ships, we will describe its data practices here before it goes live.

Children’s privacy

Our services are intended for seminary students, ages 13 and older, and the adults who teach and support them. The apps are not directed to children under 13, and we ask that anyone under 13 not use them. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have received information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately so we can address it.

Your rights

For the core experience, we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, so there are no individual records for us to retrieve, correct, or delete. If you have used Group Play and would like the data associated with your anonymous ID or nickname removed, if you joined the teacher notification list and want off it, or if you have corresponded with us by email and would like us to remove or forget that conversation, simply ask—we will honor reasonable requests.

The apps also include a built-in "Delete All My Data" option in Settings. It erases everything stored on your device—progress, notes, journal entries, and settings—and disconnects the anonymous Group Play session associated with your device, all in one tap. No email or request needed.

You are always free to stop using the site and apps at any time.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the law. When we do, we will update the "Effective" date at the top of this page and, when appropriate, provide notice on the site. Continued use of the site or apps after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
