Digital is convenient. Analog helps you map.

Seminary Sidekick is an excellent digital tool — and the goal is still to get you into the real scriptures.

It’s a little ironic writing this digitally when this post is all about analog.

Digital is convenient. It’s easy. But it doesn’t always help your brain map the material. I’m a fan of multiple modalities — tactile, physical, audio, digital. All of it is good.

I noticed that while preparing for a talk. I was looking for a scripture and ended up in the Bible Dictionary just perusing. There’s a big quotation section — and my mind started mapping to it. I could see how verses related to other verses. That visual map helped me find what I needed for the talk. It was interesting for me to experience the verses and related verses in such a way. It was as if the physical, tangible scriptures in my hands were engaging with me in a way.

Seminary Sidekick is a tool — a very excellent one. Study, Build, Prove, Master on your phone is excellent. My hope is that the tool can combine with the analog: open the physical scriptures, sit with the verses, engage. All of the tools helping us to seek Him and learn of Him.

If you’re curious, I was looking for scriptures on marriage and the very first quotation pair is Gen 1:27 and Matt 19:4. This is where Jesus is directly quoting Genesis to teach about marriage. Super interesting. The discovery was somewhat magical.

Printouts are one bridge (Scripture Builder printouts). More to come.
